Non-invasive beauty treatments are having a major moment right now (Botox, Moxi, BBL, etc.), but there's no procedure that's gotten more buzz recently than Morpheus8, the radio frequency microneedling treatment that leaves your skin tighter and firmer. Not only are we in love with it, but celebs are too: Kim K tested it out a few months ago on Instagram. Here’s everything you need to know about the treatment if you decide to try it for yourself!
What is Morpheus8?
Morpheus8 is a microneedling device that utilizes radio frequency energy to remodel and contour the face and body via subdermal adipose remodeling. This fractional treatment penetrates deep into the skin and fat to improve the appearance of skin laxity, aging, complexion issues, and fine lines/wrinkles. It can even be combined it with platelet rich plasma (PRP). Optimal results are achieved with 3 session spaced 4 weeks apart. For this reason, Morpheus8 is sold in packages by the area.
How Does It Compare To Microneedling?
Morpheus 8 combines two clinically proven treatments, microneedling and minimally invasive radio frequency treatment, to trigger collagen and elastin production, tighten fibers and contour fat. While ordinary microneedling can only target skin to a depth of 1.5 to 2 mm, the Morpheus8 is tailored to each patient’s needs and the depths can be adjusted from 0.5 mm to as deep as 8mm. This allows for fat contouring at deeper depths while superficial depths target skin rejuvenation. Since the depths can be customized we can treat the entire face and neck in one treatment - from delicate tissue around the eyes to thicker skin around the neck and jawline.
Are You A Good Candidate?
Morpheus8 is suitable for most healthy men and women of all looking to reduce signs of aging. It is also suitable have dry, normal, oily, or sensitive skin. Fitzpatrick skin types 1-5 are ideal. The most request treatments for Morpheus8 are neck, submittal fat/jawline, rough skin texture, large pores, acne scars, and areas of mild skin laxity such as belly and knees. A separate consult prior to treatment date is not required in our practice.
Before Your Treatment:
Here are a few things you should avoid at least 3 days prior to treatment. Stop the use of NSAID medications such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Naproxen. Avoid alcohol consumption. Discontinue the use of these topical products and treatments: acids (alpha hydroxy, beta hydroxy, salicylic, glycolic), retinol/retinoid use (vitamin A, tretinoin), vitamin C, and any physical, chemical, or enzymatic exfoliation. Vacation trip coming up? Try to avoid the sun since skin that is sunburned is not treatable. If your skin has been tanned, you must wait 2 weeks to be treated. Any self-tanner applied to the treated area must be completely removed. Treatment cannot be administered if there is any tanner left on the skin.
At The Time of Treatment:
Arrive 45 minutes before your treatment time with clean, make-up free skin. Do not use any moisturizer or sunscreen on the day of treatment. Topical numbing will be applied to the area receiving treatment for about 45 min. An additional pain relief measures including with treatment at our practice is ProNox (similar to “happy gas” but you are able to drive yourself home). What may be helpful during the treatment itself is bringing a pair of headphones with you. Turn your favorite playlist and zen out. This will help with the anticipation of when next “zap” is.
Post Treatment:
Guess what? There is no post-treatment pain! Your skin will feel similar to a light sunburn, warm, and a little tight the day of treatment. Pinpoint bruising may occur and is most common around the eyes. This is considered a normal outcome post treatment. To aid the healing process, avoid exercising or strenuous activity for 24 hours and do not apply makeup for 48 hours post-treatment. Redness and swelling can last 1-7 days post treatment. Collagen and elastin will start to reproduce 3-4 weeks after treatment. You can expect to begin seeing changes about a month after each treatment although, some do not start seeing changes until after their third session. Results will continue to develop for months after your last treatment!
